Sander – Performance in load securing
Wood industry and forestry
Strapping and edge protection for the

Anyone working in the timber industry knows that securing round timber, raw timber, construction timber, and chipboard correctly during transport and storage can only be achieved with the right accessories. The ideal way to secure loads of wood is with tear-resistant strapping, chains, or, in the case of sensitive and sharp edges, edge protection. The wood is either secured on pallets or lashed into bundles so that even in the event of emergency braking or sudden evasive maneuvers, nothing slips, falls over, rolls back and forth, or falls off. When securing loads of wood, it is important to note that wood is a raw material that "works" or shrinks. For this reason, the truck driver may need to re-tie down the wood shortly before transport.

LOAD SECURING FOR WOOD TRANSPORT AND WOOD STORAGE

Complete load securing from a single source

Wood is a heavy, bulky, and weather-sensitive raw material. In the timber industry, as in forestry, responsible load securing for timber transport is therefore a top priority. Below are some basic safety considerations that should be taken into account before securing any load of timber.
Legal safety regulations require a high degree of care when securing loads, and authorities across the EU are stepping up their checks to ensure greater safety on the roads.

What equipment do I need to secure the load, and have I thought of everything?

  • Are load securing devices such as strapping bands, lashing straps, and chains available?

  • Are these materials intact?

  • Are supplementary load securing aids such as anti-slip mats, edge protectors, nets, tarpaulins, load racks, rectangular timbers, wedges, etc. available?

  • Are there permanently mounted boxes for small tools and necessary materials?

  • Are there any devices for transporting shovels, brooms, pickaxes, etc.?

  • Is the load secured against slipping, even in the event of sudden changes in direction and emergency braking?

  • Have the correct lashing straps and aids been selected?

  • Was the pre-tensioning force of the lashing straps/chains determined correctly?

  • Are individual poles, square timbers, and beams transported in bundles?

  • Is the maximum load of the vehicle taken into account in terms of length and width?

Good reasons why you should protect your wood products with Sander load securing

Sanderband® – the right strapping band for every type of timber transport

  • Sanderband® is the alternative for all load securing applications where steel straps, wires, ropes, chains, and belts would otherwise be used.
  • With strengths of up to 20 kN / 2,000 kp, Sanderband® is an absolutely tear-resistant thread structure tape.
  • Sanderband® can be retensioned and is therefore particularly suitable for shrinking goods such as wood.
  • Sanderband® is resistant to all weather conditions.
  • Sander strapping is used to bundle round timber and raw wood, as well as to protect processed, palletized goods.

Edge protection – the right product for palletized wood transport

  • Sensitive and sharp edges are protected with accurately fitting Sander edge protection.
  • Sander edge protection prevents the strapping bands from cutting into the material.
  • Wooden boards, beams, strips, and stacked wood of all kinds can be stacked securely with Sander edge protection.
  • Securing loads of wood with Sander edge protection ensures that impacts are absorbed and the packaging units cannot slip.
  • Loading and unloading goods that are neatly palletized using edge protectors saves time compared to loosely packed goods deliveries.
